Dear Sir/Madam,

It is our pleasure to inform that on behalf of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee, Department of Zoology is going to organize Hands on training & National Seminar, dated 24-25 February and 27-28 February, 2017. In this context we would like to extend our heartiest invitation to all the academicians, Members of Zoology fraternity, researchers and students involved and interested to present their research paper / participate in the seminar for discussion and training program to make the events grand success.

The seminar and training will bring together the researchers, scientists, technologists from different part of India and to provide an opportunity of scientific discussion on emerging trends in the field of Zoology. Keeping in view, the hands on training will refresh the researchers and young faculties of this region on the basic newer trends in Cellular and bioinformatics techniques who still awaits for the facility.

The focal theme of the seminar is relevant to current diversified emerging interests on animals’ science research all over the world with varied interdisciplinary approaches.
Overall the focus of the seminar would be on the following sub-themes:

  1. Animal diversity and behavior , ecological crisis and economics
  2. Natural products and neutra-ceuticals with biomedical applications
  3. Environment and climate changes in North East India
  4. Xenobiotics, xenotoxicity and environmental Toxicology
  5. Cell dynamicity in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
  6. Nano materials, In silico biology and chemoinformatics
  7. Comparative endocrinology, endocrine disruptor and reproductive physiology
  8. Stress biology, Oncology and immune-modulation
  9. Photobiology, chronobiology and melatonin physiology,
  10. Aquaculture, Microbe-world and bio-fertilizer and bio-pesticides

About the Institution and Zoology department
Cotton College, the most pioneer institute of higher learning in Northeast India, which unequivocally occupies the only glory of heritage pride placed among the 19 educational institutions (UGC, 2015) of India. With its great contribution to the academic and cultural life of the region, the college came into the existence on 27th May, 1901 contemporaneous with Murarichand College of Sylhet (now in Bangladesh) before the independence of India by the untiring efforts of Late Manik Chandra Barooah and Rai Bahadur Bhuvan Ram Das with the great support of the chief-commissioner of the Assam Province from 1896 to 1902, Sir Henry John Stedman Cotton. The college has been upgraded to University status as Cotton College State University (CCSU) by the Act of the Government of Assam (Act XIX of 2011).
Zoology department of Cotton College was started in May, 1940 by introducing the subject in I.Sc. class and B.Sc. pass course in 1942 under Kolkata University. The Dr. K. N. Sarma was the founder and first Head of the Department. The Honours (now called ‘Major’/’Core’) Course of Zoology in B.Sc. was introduced in 1953 affiliated to Guwahati University under the course curriculum of Kolkata University. The Post-Graduate Course under Gauhati University, was started since 1974. The Laboratories of the department have been recognized to carry out research work and so far more than 30 Ph.D. students produced from this department  under Gauhati University. It is a FIST-DST and UGC funded department for research and PG classess.

City of guwahati

Guwahati is the gateway to N.E. regions of the country. The city is situated on the southern bank of the mighty river Brahmaputra and is a major educational and commercial centre of North Eastern India. The ancient Shakti temple of Goddess Kamakhya, Navagraha, Umananda and archaeological remains of Basistha support the mythological heritage and the city’s ancient past. The temperature of Guwahati during February is max. 200 C and min. 120C. Guwahati is easily accessible by air, rail and road. Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is a modern airport and major airlines have daily flights from all metros across the country. The Cotton College (CCSU) is located in Guwahati city in Panbazar area at a distance of 21 km from the airport and 400 mtrs from the Guwahati railway station.

Call for abstracts

Participants intending to present research paper(s) are requested to send the abstract(s) and full papers through platinum jubilee website (online) or to convener by email ( Abstract(s) of the papers (within 300 words) in MS word in 12 pt font size in Times New Roman with 1.5 spacing. It should include the title of the paper (14 pt bold; centre), author (s) name (12 pt italics; centre), affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, e-mail ID and clearly indicating the name of the author to whom correspondence should be made. Name of the author presenting the paper should be underlined.

Mode of payment
Registration fee can be paid through bank transfer or bank draft. Bank draft should be drawn in favor of Platinum Jubilee Celebration Committee (PJCC), Department of Zoology payable at Guwahati. Bank transfer should be made in State Bank of India, Guwahati branch, account of SBI, Guwahati Branch vide Acc no: 3575054827 (IFSC code: SBIN0000078). After completion of online registration, the bank draft/bank transfer voucher in original should be send to convener so as to reach within 12th February, 2017.
A proceeding volume of the seminar will be published in the form of a book after the event. The paper(s) presented in the seminar shall only be considered for publication after peer review.
